The Cost to Go Back

After a traumatic brain injury shatters her memories and her sense of reality, a desperate mother risks everything to reconstruct the life she lost… even if it means breaking the world to fix her family.

Sheila Rodriguez spent years studying geology before she discovered that the most interesting field work happens in everyday life.

The Cost to Go Back started as my own story: a car accident, a traumatic brain injury, and the slow realization that the life I was trying to reconstruct was never really mine to control in the first place. I wrote Elena because I needed to understand what I lived through. I think some of you will recognize her.
